Maleela Rise replaces a former aged-care building in Balwyn’s Reid Estate with 31 large-format residences across four levels. Designed by Cera Stribley with interiors by Studio Tate and landscape by Jack Merlo, the project aligns its massing to the neighbourhood grain while opening upper levels to long views across the canopy.
Residences are scaled more like houses — broad living areas, deep terraces, and clear, lateral planning. A concierge-style entry, lounge, library and wellness spaces sit within the building’s footprint, giving the project a quiet, civic quality.
The site’s constraints shape the build: tight boundaries, mature trees and a low-rise context demand precise façade work, controlled structure and disciplined sequencing.
Maleela Rise marks a shift in Balwyn’s housing — fewer dwellings, larger homes, and a typology calibrated to long-term occupation.
