EverlaneDesigned by Fieldwork, with interiors by Mim Design and landscaping by Openwork, the project is a benchmark in innovative design and construction, combining timeless aesthetic appeal with meticulous craftsmanship. Situated at 22 Gordon Street, Everlane integrates seamlessly into Cremorne’s bustling commercial hub, paying homage to the suburb’s industrial heritage with a contemporary twist.
The construction of Everlane involved a series of complex challenges that tested the team’s expertise and problem-solving capabilities. The retention system required extensive underpinning along the western and northern boundaries, coupled with waterproof blankets to protect the 2.5-level basement against the high water table. The façade, a standout feature, incorporated multiple materials including tinted precast concrete, powder-coated metals, and GRC fins. These elements required early engagement with subcontractors and suppliers to coordinate the intricate design and ensure structural integration. For example, GRC fins were pre-attached to the glazing system in a factory setting to streamline on-site installation, reduce safety risks, and maintain quality.
Internally, the flexible floorplates were designed for future adaptability, allowing for single or multi-tenancy layouts on each level. This demanded careful coordination of services, including the integration of separate electrical boards for potential subdivided spaces. The interior finishes, inspired by high-end residential design, featured bespoke elements such as recessed metal channels, textured walls, and custom stonework, all executed to the highest standard. Workshops with specialists, like Fabmetal, ensured that even the most intricate design features—such as 8-metre feature walls with 1–2mm tolerances—were realised with precision.
Everlane is not just a commercial building but a testament to Figurehead’s ability to deliver high-quality, innovative spaces. Through rigorous quality control processes like the staged Quality Risk Mitigation Audits (QRMA), proactive problem-solving, and collaboration with the client and design team, Figurehead has set a new standard for commercial developments in Cremorne. The building embodies sustainable construction practices, enduring design, and exceptional functionality, making it a lasting asset in one of Melbourne’s most dynamic precincts.
