A boutique designer complex in the heart of stylish, fashion-forward Prahran, the Zac Apartments offer 36 ultra-modern hotel-style one and two bedroom apartments over five floors, three ground-floor retail tenancies and a double level basement car park. Each architecturally designed apartment features timber floorboards, contemporary joinery, as well as a sophisticated palette of luxury fixtures and finishes, with some boasting sleek internal glass-walled bedrooms.

The stunning, intricate façade incorporates an innovative mix of organic and man-made materials, including textured precast and metal cladding with Alpolic® picture frames.

Figurehead was awarded the ‘Design and Construct’ contract for this project following a lengthy competitive tender process. We then partnered with the client’s design consultants to coordinate the completion of all design documentation. Every aspect of the design and construction was then extensively reviewed to ensure the client’s budget and timeline would be achieved while remaining faithful to the original design intent and the very highest of purchaser expectations.

Construction of the Zac Apartments began in March 2015. The site is bordered by both a busy main road and a narrow one-way street, with a boundary-to-boundary building envelope and no laydown area. These challenging site conditions demanded meticulous planning and scheduling of works and deliveries in order to avoid costly delays to the construction program.

Construction of the unique façade has also presented a number of challenges. The complex blend of organic and futuristic manmade materials requires expert resource management and handling to ensure the integrity of the sophisticated design is maintained.

The Zac Apartments project team achieved practical completion on the 30th June 2016, a comfortable 6 weeks ahead of the contract completion date.

“Figurehead were able to deliver the project ahead of schedule and the end product certainly exceeded expectations.”
