This $4M redevelopment of the existing tennis courts at exclusive Sacré Coeur Catholic Girls’ School incorporates several state-of-the-art multi-purpose sports courts above a ground level car park and storage facility. The new sports precinct boasts six tennis courts (with portable nets), six netball courts and four basketball courts with a hardcourt surface. The car park level also features large water catchment tanks, storage areas for sports, art, drama and gardening equipment, toilets and a bicycle lockup for staff.
Figurehead won this contract following a highly competitive tender process, beating out a number of rival companies, many of whom had specialised experience in this type of school site construction. Given that this was the first project of its type for our team, our success in securing the contract stands as testament to our ability to adapt and expand our service offering to incorporate new challenges and opportunities.
With a tight construction program and a site located within the grounds of an operating high school, site management and scheduling were meticulously maintained in order to achieve the overall contracted completion date while minimising disruption to the school’s day-to-day operations. The project was completed in two stages, with the car park handed over well in advance of the overall contract completion date in order to accommodate staff throughout term two of the school year
The integrity of the construction program relied heavily on the pre-Christmas completion of the suspended slab in order to allow for the lengthy natural curing process to take place over the holiday shutdown period. Careful and considerable attention was paid to the natural curing process of the sports courts slab ensuring no pooling occurred and the school had a perfect playing surface for all seasons of the year.
The Sacré Coeur Sports Precinct project was contractually completed in May 2017.
