This state-of-the-art five hectare container depot at Nexus Industrial Estate in Altona forms the foundations of a multi-billion dollar development by the Maersk Group, designed to set a new benchmark in rail transport efficiency and create a safe and inspiring working environment for the corporation’s on-the-ground team.
Hailed as ‘the most sophisticated and technologically advanced container depot set-up in Australia’, this ambitious project incorporates a 50 000m2 container yard, 3000m2 workshop, a 3500m2 AQIS approved wash bay, a heavy-duty 1500m2 post-tensioned slab and 230m2 of office space.
Figurehead emerged as the preferred builder for this project following an exhaustive and highly competitive pre-qualification process. We then worked hard to cost-plan and value engineer the entire project in order to meet the client’s required budget and delivery timeline.
Having successfully achievedfeasibility, the prominent developer formally engaged us under a ‘Design and Construct’ contract, allowing our expert team of consultants and project managers to engineer the entire project from design development all the way through to delivery.
Construction of the container yard commenced on site in February 2014. Rocky site conditions proved challenging to early construction, however we worked quickly to excavate the rocks from the ground soil and works proceeded with minimal delays.
“Figurehead Industrial’s ability to be so flexible on the run yet to also deliver on budget is commendable.”
