The Access Apartments complex in vibrant Balwyn includes 21 new homes and a basement level car park. The basement and first two levels were constructed using precast concrete, with the third level consisting lightweight materials.
A sleek render and Alucobond façade adds contemporary appeal to the building’s exterior, which boasts a number of ground floor terraces that can be optionally shielded by metal screens. The modern design continues throughout, with interiors featuring glossy timber floors, stone bench tops and designer European appliances.
Figurehead was invited to submit a proposal for this project based on the recommendation of a previous client and the strength of their work on a development (the August Apartments). Despite the fact that the project was awarded to us fully documented, we were still able to make a number of clever cost-saving recommendations during the construction process, almost all of which were then adopted by the client.
The biggest challenges we faced after commencing work on site were limited rear access via an extremely narrow laneway and the presence of power lines at the front of the site. With careful site management and a highly efficient works schedule we managed to overcome these challenges without delaying our construction program, including coordinating a number of successful site shutdowns while we completed works around the power lines.
